# Allocate vs. Quicken Simplifi

Simplifi is Quicken’s modern app: a spending plan, projected cash flow, and the lowest price on this list. Allocate costs more and does one thing Simplifi doesn’t: plan around pay that doesn’t arrive as one number.

Simplifi is the value pick: a spending plan, a projected cash flow, an assistant that can act with approval, and a third of Allocate’s price. It’s a very good app for a regular paycheck. Allocate costs more and is built around the conversation: you say what you want, it writes the plan and proposes the changes, and My plan and Workspace give you a document and a board that Simplifi doesn’t have. Regular salary and value, Simplifi. Planning by talking, or pay that comes in pieces, Allocate.

## What Quicken Simplifi is

Quicken Simplifi is Quicken’s web-and-mobile app (there’s no desktop version). Its Spending Plan starts with your monthly income, subtracts bills and subscriptions, and shows what’s left; Projected Cash Flow extends that over a period you choose. It tracks investments with cost basis and performance, net worth with vehicle values from Kelley Blue Book, and bills with due dates. Quicken Assist, in beta in 2026, chats with your data and can categorize, create goals and add rules with your approval. It’s annual only — $6.99 a month billed yearly, with an introductory $3.99 rate — with no trial but a 30-day money-back guarantee, and one extra household member is included.

## What Allocate is

Allocate is a personal-finance app built so you can plan in plain language. You link your accounts (Plaid), then you talk: *“can I afford a $600 flight in November?”*, *“move the house goal out a year”*, *“what happens if I put $400 more into the 401(k)?”* Allo-Bot answers from your real numbers and, when something should change, stages the change for you to approve. It never moves money.

Around the conversation are three things we haven’t seen elsewhere. **My plan** is a written plan — your goals, in order, with what each takes a month and when it lands — that reads like a document, not a dashboard. **Workspace** is a board you build from your own data: pin a card for any number, a note beside it, a sheet with live cells, and ask the guide to break a figure down onto the board. And a **morning brief** tells you what moved and what needs a yes, so you don’t have to go looking. Pay that comes in pieces — a bonus, a commission, a vest — is handled as income in the plan, not a surprise deposit.

The point of all of it is that a plan should be liquid. A raise, a move, a baby, a job change, a bad month: you say what changed, and the plan moves — goals re-dated, amounts re-sized, the brief the next morning telling you where things stand. It’s not a budget to keep up; it’s a plan that keeps up with you. One price, US only, web and iPhone.

## Where Quicken Simplifi is better

- **Price.** $83.88 a year (less in year one) against Allocate’s $240. It’s the cheapest app on this list by a distance.
- **Android.** Simplifi runs everywhere; Allocate is web and iPhone.
- **Investment detail.** Cost basis, performance analysis and real-time quotes. Allocate tracks balances and holdings without that layer.
- **Projected cash flow.** A day-by-day projection from your recurring income and bills over any period you pick.
- **A second household member** on the same subscription, at no cost.
- **14,000 institutions** with two fallback aggregators if the first fails.

## Where Allocate is better

- **The conversation is the plan.** Quicken Assist can categorize, create goals and add rules. Allo-Bot does that and also sizes the goal against what comes in, tells you what it does to the goals behind it, and stages the whole change for one yes.
- **Built to change.** Simplifi’s Spending Plan resets each month. Allocate’s plan is continuous and moves when life does — a raise, a move, a job change — with the changes staged for your yes and the brief the next morning saying where things stand.
- **My plan.** Simplifi’s Spending Plan is a number: what’s left this month. Allocate’s My plan is a written document — goals in order, monthly amounts, landing dates, what changed.
- **Workspace.** A board you build: cards for your numbers, notes, live sheets, the guide breaking a figure down when you ask. Simplifi has a custom dashboard of its own widgets.
- **Goals measured against income.** Simplifi’s projection excludes savings goals by its own docs. Allocate checks each goal month by month against what comes in and offers a one-tap fit when one outruns your pay.
- **Pay in pieces.** Simplifi’s answer to a bonus is a per-month custom income amount you set by hand, and it has no RSU or equity support (that lives in Quicken’s Windows app). Allocate treats a vest or a commission as expected income.
- **Monthly billing and a morning brief.** Simplifi is annual only; Allocate is $25 month to month. And a short written note each day instead of a dashboard.

## Which one should you pick?

**Pick Quicken Simplifi if**

- Your pay is a regular salary and you want the best value.
- You’re on Android, or share with one other person.
- You want investment cost basis and performance.
- You like a day-by-day cash-flow projection.

**Pick Allocate if**

- You’d rather say what you want than set it up.
- You want a written plan and a board of your own.
- Some of your pay is bonus, commission or equity.
- You’d rather pay monthly than commit to a year.

## Frequently asked questions

### Simplifi has a projected cash flow. Isn’t that the same as Allocate’s plan?

Both look ahead. Simplifi projects your balance from recurring income, bills and future-dated transactions; by its own docs it excludes planned spend and savings goals. Allocate’s plan is the goals: each one measured month by month against what comes in, including expected one-off income, so you see whether the goal fits, not just where the balance lands.

### Can Simplifi handle a bonus?

Yes, manually: you set a custom income amount for that month in the Spending Plan. It doesn’t know a bonus is coming until you tell it, and there’s no RSU or equity handling in Simplifi (Quicken’s Windows app has RSU tracking; Simplifi doesn’t).

### Both have an AI that can act. What’s the difference?

Quicken Assist can categorize, create goals and add rules with approval, and can’t move money. Allo-Bot proposes changes to the plan — goals, contributions, expected income, bills — that you approve, and also can’t move money. The difference is what each app plans around: a spending plan versus goals measured against lumpy income.

### Which is cheaper?

Simplifi: $83.88 a year, and $47.88 in the first year at the introductory rate; annual only, no monthly plan. Allocate: $240 a year ($20 a month paid yearly) or $25 monthly, with 100 Allo-Bot messages a month included.

### Is there a free trial?

Simplifi has no trial but a 30-day money-back guarantee. Allocate works from an estimate before you link a bank, so you can see the plan on day one.

We wrote this comparison. We tried to be fair, and every Quicken Simplifi claim links to where we read it, but we make Allocate, so read it as one side of the argument and try both.
